Designing a Sustainable and Colorful Wildflower Backyard Wedding

Creating a unique and beautiful floral design for Syd and Jason's special day with locally grown wildflowers and a touch of elegance with Peonies

Syd and Jason’s backyard wedding was a true celebration of nature and sustainability. As the couple wanted to incorporate locally grown wildflowers into their special day, I knew I had to call in the experts at Twin Cities Flower Exchange. Together, we curated a stunning array of wildflowers that were not only in season but also sourced from local Minnesota and Wisconsin farms.

But that wasn't the only special touch we added to the day. Syd had her heart set on having white peonies in her bouquet. Now, these flowers aren't exactly in season in Minnesota in July, so we had to get a little creative. We managed to source some beautiful white peonies all the way from Alaska! They added a touch of elegance and romance to the bouquet, which was mostly white with a few pops of light yellows and blushes.

The floral design for the event was not only beautiful but also eco-friendly. We made sure to use locally grown wildflowers that were in season, thus reducing carbon footprint and supporting local farmers.

As for the decor, we wanted to create a bright, colorful and joyful atmosphere. The tables were decorated with a variety of wildflowers in shades of pink, yellow and purple. The vibrant blooms stood out beautifully against the neutral attire of the bridal party.

The overall design was a balance of elegant, wild and sustainable. It was a true reflection of the couple's personalities and their love for nature.

As a florist, it's always a joy to work on a wildflower wedding. It's not only a chance to create something beautiful, but also an opportunity to support local farmers and reduce the carbon footprint of the event. Plus, it's always fun to surprise the couple with a special touch like the white peonies from Alaska - it's like a floral treasure hunt!
